At The Muse Hotel, we cherish the vibrant stories and unique talents of those who contribute to our community. This month, we are delighted to introduce Sandra, our esteemed photographer, as our August Muse of the Month. Sandra’s eye for detail and her passion for capturing authentic moments have made her an integral part of our team. In this interview, Sandra shares her journey, inspirations, and a glimpse into her personal life.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your career, and what inspires you?
I’m a single mom, my daughter and I moved here from Canada a little over two years ago for my work. I’m an LA-based freelance fashion and lifestyle photographer shooting predominantly film cameras creating authentic, dreamy original imagery for my clients. An artist at heart. Visual. Creative. I am constantly inspired by what I see. From the busy colourful streets of DTLA to the beautiful colours of the desert in PS. I always have a camera or iPhone on hand for that quick capture.
What are your top three passions outside of work?
Passionate about music, fashion (including an amazing vintage find!) food and fitness! Oh that’s 4 haha.
What’s one quirky or unexpected thing about you that most people don’t know?
I hate wearing socks. Bare feet in every shoe possible including my cowboy boots. Summer or winter it doesn’t really matter.
Can you share a story of a time when travel changed your perspective on life?
I would have to say the first time I took my daughter to Italy by myself. She was 8. I planned the entire two-week trip. I told her that if we went, she would have to help me navigate and manage her own luggage.. she did. It was the most amazing experience ever. Experiencing a new place and culture fueled the passion to seek out more. Since that first trip together (overseas) we haven’t stopped traveling. Exploring. Finding the local farmers market. Eating delicious food and finding the best vintage shops in town! Not to mention the beautiful new friends we made along the way.
Describe your perfect weekend getaway. Where would you go and what would you do?
Weekend getaways are a MUST. It typically needs to include sun. Heat preferably and an interesting town or landscape to explore. I have a short attention span and have a hard time sitting still 😂 so I need stimulating, visual opportunities. The preferred location has to include a pool or water for cooling down and photo opportunities, interesting architectural design, art or history to explore. I get bored of sitting poolside for long periods of time. So I would research the local places to dine where the food is authentic, find a cool lounge or wine bar with live music and the hidden insiders' knowledge about where to shop for the best vintage clothes or home furnishings.
If you could design a themed room for our hotel, what theme would you choose and why?
Moroccan or Parisian. For the textures. For the old mixed with new. Muted tones mixed with jewel tones. And it would smell amazing. Memorable. Sensual. Warm, musk sandalwood or incense infused, with a beautiful BW photography book on the coffee or bedside table for inspiration. A thick colorful Persian style rug, a large comfy bed with a linen or natural duvet or cover. The walls would be white or a muted tan or pale almost sand-colored pink, accented with tapestry, macrame, and or sculptural pieces. The toiletries would match the room fragrance. Because it’s the small details that make a place memorable. If the AC doesn’t work or the neighbors are loud, it will be forgotten.
